probably easiest to do this day-by-day.

i had school all day. vitaminj had to take his mom to sandusky and then come home and pack the car and come meet me so we could head east-northeast. this put a lot of stress on him, which i of course soaked up like a sponge :/ so we finally got to erie, and found a place to stay for the night. putting up an unfamiliar tent in the dark and in the rain did not sound like fun. so we relaxed in the hotel's jacuzzi tub :) and fell asleep after determining that yes, the hotel did have Spike TV and we could watch TNA...had we stayed awake long enough....

got up, went to bob evans and then headed out to the site. it seems it started raining right when we got ready to unload, of course :) we thought we could only camp in the east shire, so sped down that way and started to pitch the tent next to [livejournal.com profile] selenetawny and O (which turns out to be a fantastic idea in retrospect). turns out, we could have gone anywhere in the place, but we were too close for me to feel comfortable with my plans for tent-lovin'! got the car moved, vitaminj set up stuff while i went to the ancestor doll's workshop. everything was damp, but i had faith it would dry someday :)

the ancestor doll making was great. i started off making a doll i thought would be either my grandmother or greatgrandmother....but eventually turned into a guy wearing a kilt...which was confusing at first....i wrote my praise offering, that all those who fought for freedom and liberty in the past would give me their strength so i could do the same. [livejournal.com profile] druidkirk's integrity workshop was interesting, although i found more reasons to not be clergy. specifically, my responses to his ethical dilemmas :) to the situation of the person who could stay in their parents' home as long as s/he didn't practice that devil magic (i.e., druidry), my response was a binding spell :) to the woman whose atheist husband mocked her every attempt at spirituality, it was Dump the Mother Fucker Already (a la "savage love").

dinner and then the warrior's rite, which was really good. i think the warrior's guild sparked something at desert magic, and that flame has grown thru to wellspring and hopefully beyond. the warrior's rite was simple yet powerful. in the meditation, we were asked to (and i'm fuzzy on this, but here's what happened) seek out a historical, mythical or ancestral warrior to ask advice, etc. i was surrounded by people in highland garb and the main figure (who kept shifting between male and female...interestingly) said they would be there, but i had my own work to do. namely, be disciplined in my training. if i am disciplined in my training, that will extend to other things.

great...now my meditations are telling me to go the gym more often :D

some other stuff in all likelihood happened after that, but we went to bed early. we are old.

edit: duh...ANCESTOR RITE. was very long and had lots of singing, but was still good. they gave us life, i think we can do a long ritual.

oh, apparently the fact that the warriors' ritual was "short" is a bad thing. feh on that.

i forgot to mention the BEST times i think i had all weekend were the 'sitting around bullshitting time' ESPECIALLY in the mornings. those caffeine-aholics gathered around the embers of the previous nights' fires, ingesting our sacred beverage. [livejournal.com profile] druidkirk, [livejournal.com profile] romandruid, K of 6th night, Gannd and a whole host of others...it was fantastic. (apologies if i left anyone out...my brain no function good on caffeine)

Saturday a.m. i THINK was J's "Intro to the Warriors' Guild" workshop, which kind of turned into 'ask not what your warriors' guild can do for you, but what can the warriors' guild do for ADF' kind of thing. lots of GOOD ideas and lots of GOOD energy behind them. i'm really psyched about it.

warriors' games were that afternoon. i sucked ROYALLY again, although i spared the lives of all amphibians. convinced [livejournal.com profile] singingwren to join the guild, and apparently a few others hopped on board. Aethon was the guild champion.

it was at this time we noticed we had a coincidental warriors' grotto thing happening, as folks in the warriors' guild seemed to have congregated all in the same area. we are going to try to do the same thing purposely at summerlands, complete with warriors' altar :)

pot luck was that evening, followed by Awen, some other band (whose name i sadly missed, they were fun) and then open mic night. i'm always astounded by folks who do NOT bring SOMETHING for the potluck, but whatcha gonna do? my ravioli went over well i think.

mead competition results: my own VITAMINJ was co-champion. neither the brewers' guild members nor the population could decide between vitaminJ's chocolate or raven's vanilla. (those of you going to TM, stop by wherever i'm staying (ugh) to taste :).

jenni won the bardic limerick challenge :) we cranes rock.

again, the warriors' guild all sat together kinda, and were very loud and boisterous, as we should be :) at one point i decided banging on the table was a more suitable way of behaving :)

OH...i also got the PERFECT thor's hammer from gannd. neither we, the money or the necklace was in the same place at the same time after i picked it out, so i paid him money at some point. then as i was getting ready to eat, he came behind me and dropped it in front of me to put it on my neck...i cannot describe the feeling as a felt the weight of it on its silver chain. (of course, i'm still looking for the one with the amber chip...but THIS is MY hammer...)

the mead being long gone, and the chill of the evening setting in, an impromptu warriors' hot tub run began. i don't know who the couple was that was trying to have probably a very romantic evening in the hot tub, but a bunch of rowdy warriors will NOT be dissuaded! they were very good spirited about it. soon we were up to 13 in the hot tub. J led us in the hot tub games, and discovered the lot of us seem to like hockey. this is a GOOD thing. no one appears to like the red wings (sorry, [livejournal.com profile] odinkar. this is an even BETTER thing, and i plan on proposing a by law reflecting this :)

again, bed time.

damn, this is getting long! okay, briefly....all ADF meeting that morning. excellent. very cordial and stress-n-drama free. 3CG got an award for some community service that, frankly, i don't remember, but someone does. vitaminJ went to help clean up the nemeton, i went to grade papers (ugh), although i brought them all water. got to sit in with Ian and Isaac bonewits as they gave a review and history of the organization and then also a longer, and more contentious meeting about what HAS to be in the liturgy and what can be fudged with. even with that, frith was maintained.

(there had been a brewing workshop before that, and ian and isaac had been liberally "sampling" and continued to do so thru the next TWO meetings. this was very amusing :)

main unity rite was that evening. usually, unity rites do next to nothing for me. this one was different, and i can't put my finger on why. others who were there and posted reviews have their takes on it, but really it doesn't matter to me...i'm just glad it was.

oh, saw ron and melanie from the troth, and [livejournal.com profile] bojojohn and mr. bojojohn. baby bojojohn was sleeping every time i went to see him, but that's okay, that's what babies do. apparently he enjoyed his first camping experience, which is excellent :)

again, jim and i were wussy and went to bed early. not before [livejournal.com profile] druidkirk said i was a hoot :) that made my night.

at that point, everyone had broke into their little cliques and its hard to break into conversations, so we went to bed.

blue monday

goodbyes suck. the closing rite afforded us the opportunity for hugs though. funny closing rite thing was when i asked a very tired and i presume hungover ian if we were processing, as they walked by our camp. "NO!" :) :) :) :)

so then we were off, doing the traditional post-festival bob evans thing (although no one joined us this time :( ). [livejournal.com profile] romandruid passed us on the way home, but we saw no one else.

i'm sure i left out something really important, but i have a final exam to write and get to the copy center before we leave for TM tomorrow. so if i left anyone out, it's unintentional. i enjoyed EVERYONE i met and hope to see them again at summerlands and whenever else :D

It was nice to chat with you vicariously on Saturday. Or maybe it was just Anna and some others... Oh well :-)

Hope to see you at Comfest.

A couple of my favorite parts of the whole weekend: drive-by smooches and hearing your giggle somewhere nearby. Both make me grin like a goofball. :)

thank you so much for the gift for baby bojojohn!!! :) What a cute cute cute onesie and toy. I'm sure he will love it--thank you for thinking of us that way. And I'm sorry that I wasn't up either when you guys came over after the ritual. Just couldn't keep my eyes open!!

putting up an unfamiliar tent in the dark and in the rain did not sound like fun.

You know, it occurred to me as I was fondly reading this, that I do not think I have EVER erected a tent under any other circumstances.
